ESPN Regional Television has announced that the 2010-11 Papajohns.com Bowl will be played at Legion Field on Jan. 8. Papajohns.com Bowl enters the fifth year which will feature a team from the BIG EAST Conference against a team from the Southeastern Conference and will be televised nationally at noon ET on ESPN.
The PapaJohns.com Bowl (formerly known as the Birmingham Bowl) is a post-season NCAA-sanctioned Division I-A college football bowl game approved in April 2006 and played annually at the Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.
ESPN Regional Television, a subsidiary of ESPN owns and manages the bowl’s operations, sponsorships and marketing, including broadcast of the game on ESPN. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) also provides marketing, management and game-day operations support. Papa John’s pizza became the title sponsor signing a multi-year agreement on November 16, 2006.
Mark Meadows, executive director, Papajohns.com Bowl, said “We are excited about playing on a Saturday as we have done in three of our four previous games. Saturdays have always been popular with fans, giving families an opportunity to attend the game together. Additionally, as the only bowl game televised on January 8th, more national attention will be focused on the Papajohns.com Bowl and Birmingham.”
