Comcast Launches Telefutura HD And Univision HD in Washington, D.C. Area Before 2010 FIFA World Cup

Comcast has launched Spanish-language broadcast channels Telefutura HD and Univision HD to it’s subscribers in Washington, D.C. area. Comcast high-definition subscribers in Washington, D.C. can now watch all 64 games of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in HD taking place in South Africa from June 11 through July 11 in Spanish language.

Comcast has launched Univision HD appears on Comcast Limited Basic channel 794 and Telefutura HD is available on Comcast Limited Basic channel 795.

Rudy Guernica, Entravision Communications’ General Manager of the Univision and Telefutura stations serving Washington, D.C., said “We are pleased to be working with Comcast to offer the first Spanish-language HD networks available to its customers in Washington, D.C., just in time for the World Cup. Univision and Telefutura are among the most viewed Spanish-language networks in the country, and our stations have long been where the local Hispanic community turns for information and entertainment.”

Fred Graffam, regional senior vice president for Comcast, said “Comcast is committed to delivering programming that reflects the diverse interests of our customers and communities. With the addition of HD Hispanic networks to our lineup, we continue to provide our customers with the information and entertainment that matters most to them.”

Comcast’s launch of Telefutura HD and Univision HD adds to its continuously expanding HD selection for Washington, D.C. customers. In recent months, Comcast has doubled the number of HD channels in Washington, D.C., and currently offers more than 3,000 HD choices On Demand each month.

Comcast also offers its subscribers in Washington, D.C. a Cable Latino package, which currently delivers a selection of more than 25 Hispanic channels including Canal Sur TV, CNN Espanol, Discovery Espanol, and Galavision. Comcast locally customizes its channel lineups to address the needs of Hispanic customers across its different service areas, including programming for Puerto Rican, Mexican, Cuban, Central American, South American and Caribbean cultures.

Cable Latino customers also have access to Comcast’s signature On Demand service, which offers more than 17,000 entertainment programs each month, including more than 300 Spanish-oriented programs, available to watch any time, with the ability to pause, fast-forward and rewind. With more than 13 billion views to date, Comcast’s On Demand service features everything from movies, music and top TV shows to the most popular kids, sports, lifestyle and local programs. Comcast customers are currently selecting On Demand more than 350 million times every month, with HD On Demand representing the fastest-growing category of content.
