Comcast’s HD Expansion plans

June 28, 2008

Comcast has aggressive plans in expanding the high-definition channel delivery. Comcast has ordered for six million digital converter boxes this year with three suppliers. Multichannel.com has reported that the cable operator has ordered for digital converter boxes in an effort to create more space for high-definition channels.

The boxes will be supplied to the subscribers who now own analog sets but require analog signals. By using the converter boxes the digital signal requires less system space, can be displayed on the analog sets. Normally hig-definiton channels require more than seven times the amount of space as an analog channel. The cable operator now has more space for providing HD channels.
