Dish Network Will Expand HD Services With New Ciel II satellite

The Ciel Satellite, a new satellite operating company from Canada has successfully launched Ciel II satellite on Dec.10 at 13:43:00 UTC from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The new satellite will help Dish Network to increase its bandwidth and deliver more high-definition channels in 2009.

Dish Network is competing with the satellite TV giant, DirecTV in offering HD services and as of now DirecTV is leading with more than 130 HD channels. Dish’s AMC 14 failed to deliver expected results and the sat caster’s plans to launch more HD channels in 2008 were shattered.

Dish Network will use Ciel II satellite to expand its HD offering and its immediate target will be to deliver as many as 50 HD channels to match DirecTV in high-definition services.
