ESPNews HD Launches Today with a New Look
As announced earlier, ESPNews has launched its high-definition channel today at 8.00 AM ET with the networks first hour simulcast on ESPN HD and later on ESPN 2 HD and ESPN. Comcast, DirecTV and Time Warner Cable have signed carriage agreement with the channel to carry the new HD channel, but not to carry during the launch.
The new look of the ESPNews in HD launched from the new studio with “HD Sideline” graphic that will wrap the top, left apart from the traditional bottom to give the viewers more comfort with news, scores, league standings, real-time information and stats, which is not available on the standard definition broadcast.
“March 30 will be a special day for ESPN and sports fans,” said Bryan Burns, ESPN vice president of strategic business planning and development. “The launch of ESPNEWS HD comes on the fifth birthday of ESPN HD, which jump started the move to high definition television in the United States. Everyone involved with ESPNEWS has worked very diligently over the last year to prepare our first service that provides information not available on its standard definition counterpart. This is a milestone concept at ESPN, and one we believe our affiliates and consumers will rapidly label as a “must have.”
