The Mtn. will debut on DirecTV on Aug. 27
DirecTV will start broadcasting The Mountain West Conference’s television network, The Mtn. network from August 27 and will be available on channel 616. Mountain West Conference reached an agreement with DirecTV during February and DirecTV has agreed to carry the channel from August 1. Before launching on DirecTV, The Mtn is carried to 1.2 million homes nationally, with the DirecTV deal The Mtn will reach more than 17 million homes across US.
Craig Thompson, MWC Commissioner was under severe pressure and even criticized as many DirecTV subscribers have no access to the channel. Now MWC Commissioner, athletic directors and many fans are happy that DirecTV carries The Mtn. The Mtn. is scheduled to broadcast 30 regular-season football games live in this season, including seven of Colorado State University’s 12 contests. The network also will telecast more than 100 men’s and women’s basketball contests in 2008.
The Mtn. Network already available with major cable operator Comcast in certain market areas. The Mtn does not have a broadcasting deal with the other major satellite TV provider DISH Network. CSU athletic director Paul Kowalczyk said that they are in negotiations with other operators for a carriage agreement, which include DISH Network.
